About
Social tech doesn’t have to mean doom scrolling, and nightlife can be more than going to the same old bars. Plots opens the door to high-quality parties you’ve never heard of, helping you get out of your bubble and make new friends in real life.

ScopeA new CTO joined our team, and immediately gave me a design challenge. I explored a more viral and immersive version of our product with more meaningful social features. I developed a completely new user experience in by doing user research, using insights to create new flows, and designing UI screens to bring my concept to life.

Playlists for weekend plans
...they’re called “Plots”
Plots help users make plans with friends to attend events on the Plots app. Add events, then add friends. Users who joined a plot can see who else has joined, invite more friends, and quickly get tickets to an event.

Gamified Invites

The more, the merrier When users get excited about an event and invite friends, they’re acting as promoters, and get rewarded with XP points and Kandy.

Become a Plots legendXP levels up the VIP rank. Each rank unlocks a new perk, encouraging users to continue attending Plots events and bringing their friends along.

Cash in at the Kandy ShopKandy is exchanged for enticing vouchers in the Kandy Shop. VIP 1 users can only get ticket discounts, but as users level up their VIP Rank, they unlock increasingly valuable vouchers.

Redesigned Event Discovery

In: bento boxes
Out: maps
Plots users care less about a map than when events are and who’s attending them. Bento boxes neatly contain relevant information and display events more efficiently.

Event Filters!
  • For you displays recommended events for upcoming plots, first and second level connections attending.

  • Friends displays events friends are attending or interested in.

  • Hot displays events with 150+ attendees users and/or guest lists growing at increasing rate.

  • Interested displays bookmarked events.

Activity FeedWho’s going where?

The Activity Feed provides updates on friends' activity, events, and nearby plots. Checking it throughout the week is a great way to see which events all the cuties will be attending.

Information Architecture

Behind the scenes
Before drawing a single frame, I mapped out the relationships between information, which ensured that the user flows would fit together into a cohesive product.

Revisions

Profile pictures = currencyIn the absence of user-generated content, profile pictures are very valuable. After finishing the challenge, I experimented with the visual design of the Plots feature to make profile pictures more eye-grabbing.

Key Takeaways

Boundaries

Alignment

Digital products need to align with the way people naturally think and behave to create a seamless user experience.

Agility

When working by yourself with very limited time, prioritization and discernment are paramount to meeting deadlines.
